ABOUT / FAR ISLE

Before a landscape becomes a picture, understand the land

Far Isle presents an independent landscape photographer's portfolio through weather, terrain and time. Looking starts with the picture, then moves on to the place, the season and the photographer's notes.

How we look

The same view becomes a different picture with each change of wind, tide and light. When choosing photographs we look first at how they answer one another: how fog hides the land, how the sea gives scale, how sand and forest keep time.

From one image to a series

The work is arranged along four lines: fog, coast, desert and forest. Each photograph is given room, with its place, year and photographer alongside, so that looking can lead on to where the work came from.

About this sample portfolio

Far Isle is a fictional photographer's brand made as a demonstration. The photographs shown were taken by different photographers, and each one is credited with its author and licence. What it shows is how a professional photography portfolio can be arranged and what information it should carry; it does not pass off the sample photographs as one person's work.
